I have been learning from being a part of the social media landscape since 2005 when I started blogging for Pallimed, a niche academic medical blog that has grown to over 3000 subscribers across all of the now three total blogs. Those experiences and lessons learned were bottled up and did not really have a potential to be shared with others because I did not have a unifying concept of what I was heavily engaged with.
My contextual model for understanding the strength of user generated social media and the leverage of earnest networking changed after two major episodes: re-reading Malcolm Gladwell‘s The Tippping Point which will be addressed in upcoming posts and this short clip by Michael Wesch, anthropology professor from Kansas State University.
Some of the technical parts may not be clear to all, but stay with it. It really show that all of the social in social media is about you and me connecting. I have had many opportunities because of social media and earnest networking and so can you and your organization.
You just need a contextual model.

You're right…this post is inspirational! Already it's tweaking my head-up-my-ass pose toward the internet! Thanks, Christian, for mentioning this site over at Pallimed!
I salute you with a raised fist, which I'm unfolding into an open handed, enthusiastic wave!
I'm bookmarking this area, specifically for the inspiration!
